Turin (Italy), Palazzo Madama, Textile gallery, 26 February 2025 – 2 February 2026
Palazzo Madama presents a new setup of its textile gallery. The thread running through is the deep bond, both material and symbolic, that unites white—the natural colour of silk and linen—and women. The particular linen embroidery created in medieval monasteries, the art of needle and bobbin lace, and white-on-white embroidery are all arts in which female hands have shaped masterpieces. This connection has endured down the centuries, with women as the artificers, artisans, and guardians of tradition, as well as discerning patrons and users of exquisite fabrics and fashion accessories.
The new setup presents more than fifty textiles artefacts, of which fourteen are exhibited for the first time and six have been restored for this occasion. They are accompanied by various works of applied art, such as engravings, porcelains, jewels, bindings from the museum’s collections.
